PEN PALS

We are so excited to be finally connecting with several US schools. We look forward to international friendships.

Here Brooks, of Wonderland BookSavers, is giving a presentation explaining our lifestyle in the Lwengo District. These children will become our new Pen Pals.

If you would like to write to us, we would love to be your Pen Pal! Contact us for details. We would love to get to know you!

WOMEN

One of the main objectives of KCDO is to provide women with the knowledge and opportunities to improve their lives and the lives of their children. We actively provide fundamental education in the areas of farming and animal husbandry. One example is our recent foray into pig farming. Women have been learning every aspect of pig farming, from piglet care to the economics of running and maintaining a successful farm, including encouraging interactions with neighboring farming communities to build a better breeding program.

Our programs provide women with the economic knowledge necessary for them to engage in small business entrepreneurship.

We welcome financial assistance that would address the ability for women to begin individual small business enterprises. Statistics have shown that women-owned business are the most successful means of improving the lives of entire families. Contact us if you would like to expand opportunities for women.

PENCILS

These children are enjoying learning about animals.

School supplies are as simple and universal as the pencils, crayons, markers, pens and maps US children have at home. Here you can see Wonderland BookSavers has filled baggies and shoe boxes with these items, collected by children. We at KCDO received these items. For the first time, Kyamaganda children have the school supplies that enable them to learn. Before this we had to share one pencil among several children.

Pencils are a real gift!

Thank you! If you would like to donate simple supplies like pens and pencils, please Contact us.

BOOKS

Through book donations we received from Wonderland BookSavers we were able to supply 18 schools and 100’s of children throughout our region with numerous books for the very first time.

Books are our most necessary tool for generating literacy among our young students.

These children are learning to read and write in English and are hoping to have sufficient success in Primary School to enable them to enter Secondary School.

Do you see unread books sitting around your home?

Every book that your children have outgrown can be donated so that these children can become literate.

One of the most exciting moments is to look at these pictures and recognize a book that you have personally placed in a box and donated to this cause.

Join the fun! Donate your gently used children’s books today. It is that easy to be the miracle in someone else’s life. Contact us for more information.

LIBRARY

With both funds and books from Wonderland BookSavers, we have been able to build a community library.

We now have many children and adults coming to our KCDO library, this really makes us a community center, enabling us to directly benefit all members of the KCDO family.

We are still adding to our book collection, and so our library resources continue to grow. We have recently received another 70 boxes of books from Wonderland BookSavers and this brings even more people to our library.

The children love to unpack our new books. If you would like to help us build our library, consider donating children’s books. We love to read! Contact us if you would like to contribute.

PIGGERY

We are very excited that we now have a small piggery which can create economic independence, as well as supplying a sustainable food source for our community.

We built every part of our pig farm ourselves.

We poured the concrete and painted all the timber with oil to prevent wood rot.

We built a rain water catchment system so that clean water will run into a water tank and our pigs will be healthy.

This is our water tank.

We now have 22 piglets and one boar.

The women of our community are maintaining the piglets and our taking the lead in managing this business.

This is our first opportunity to create economic independence for the vulnerable families residing in Kyamaganda.

Funds for our piggery were raised by Wonderland BookSavers, Make a Splash for Uganda fundraiser.

Wonderland BookSavers decorated the envelopes. Guests were asked to donate the number of dollars depicted on the envelope. Inside each envelope was a special message, thanking the contributor.

This simple fund raiser helped change our opportunities and our lives.
